One of Australia’s top independent podcasters

For eight years, Brooke and her husband Ben hosted The Slow Home Podcast, one of Australia’s most popular independent shows. With more than 300 episodes and over 9 million downloads, the show wrapped up in 2022.

Brooke and Ben now host a slow-paced monthly show, The Tortoise.

There is an ever-growing group of people who are saying no to life lived at 110%. They are opting to slow down, simplify and focus on the truly important things. Brooke and Ben McAlary are two of them and in The Slow Home Podcast, they chat to others who have adopted a similar approach to life — slowing down, opting out, saying no.

Listened to more than 9 million times and featuring over 300 episodes, The Slow Home Podcast was one of Australia’s longest-running health podcasts.

Past guests include Sarah Wilson, Gretchen Rubin, Hannah Moloney, The Minimalists and Kate Mildenhall, with topics ranging from loneliness, sustainability, happiness, capitalism, minimalism, creativity and so much more.

After more than a year of radio silence, Brooke and Ben discovered there were parts of podcasting they really missed. Namely, the slow-paced, deep-dive conversations, where they were free to explore a topic in-depth, with no agenda.

So, in March 2023, The Tortoise podcast was born.

A more candid, unedited form of podcasting than you may be used to, The Tortoise podcast (a plodcast, if you will!) leans into its slow roots.

Episodes are released on the third Thursday of every month and each explore a specific topic through the broad lens of slow living.

Past topics include the four-day workweek, mental load, self-care, social media and addiction.
