How can we live slow in a world that won’t stop racing?
I started The Tortoise in March 2022, to dig into the question of slow living in a fast world, and since then it has evolved into a beautiful community where we explore life and all its human messiness through a lens of slowing down and paying attention.
Rarely does slow living look like its Instagram persona, and more often than not, it’s challenging. But it can offer us ease, and it’s there, in that ever-shifting space, that I like to poke around and ask questions.
What does self-worth have to do with capitalism?
Why does slow living look suspiciously fast sometimes?
How can we create a new definition of balance?
Does living slowly rob us of ambition?
Why is simplicity so bloody complex to achieve?
Why does everyone look at me like I’m crazy when I say I want less, and what can I do about it if I’m the only person I know who wants it?
We dig into joy and the power of tiny, consistent changes; letting go and opting out; well-being and chronic illness; wonder and awe and creativity and raising young people while learning to raise ourselves.
It is genuinely one of the kindest, warmest, most delightful corners of the internet and I’d love you to join us.
